01Who it's for

Open to current and former Canadian Armed Forces members and their immediate families.

  • Are a current or former CAF member (any branch)
  • Have service-related health concerns
  • Need VAC paperwork or coordination
  • Are dealing with PTSD, OSI, or post-service mental health
  • Have chronic pain related to service
  • Are an Ontario resident with a valid health card

02How the program works

Day 0 · Online intake

Initial Intake & Service History

Complete intake including service branch, deployment history (if you wish to share), VAC status, and current concerns. Confidential — your service details stay between you and your physician.

Week 1 · In-store

Records & VAC Coordination

If you have an existing VAC case, we will obtain records (with your consent). For new VAC applications, we can complete required physician reports.

Week 2 · Virtual

Comprehensive Consultation

A virtual consult to address your concerns in depth. We allocate longer first appointments for veterans to allow proper history-taking and treatment planning.

Weeks 3+ · Hybrid

Treatment Plan & Referrals

Prescriptions, referrals to specialists (mental health, pain clinics, sleep medicine), VAC paperwork, and rehabilitation coordination.

Wrap-up

Ongoing Continuity

04Coverage & what's billed

OHIP-covered
Physician visits· no cost to you
All physician consultations are billed directly to OHIP under your provincial health card. You will never receive an invoice for a covered consultation.
Valid health card required at intake

What's covered: physician consultations, requisitioned lab work, in-store vitals review, prescription refills written by your DOS physician, and follow-up visits during the program.

What may be patient-pay: certain weight-loss or specialty medications (depending on private insurance), supplements, and any out-of-program services you elect. Your DOS physician will discuss any patient-pay item with you before prescribing — nothing is added to your file without consent.

05Your Metro pharmacist

Each Metro location partnered with DOS has at least one pharmacist briefed on the program. They have access to your DOS chart (with your consent) and can answer questions about side effects, interactions, and adjustments without you needing to wait for a physician appointment.

06Eligibility & safety

Open to current and former Canadian Armed Forces members and their immediate families.

This program may not be right for you if you:

  • Are in acute mental health crisis (call 988 or VAC Assistance: 1-800-268-7708)
  • Need immediate emergency care (call 911)
  • Need urgent in-person trauma assessment

07Common questions

Do I need to be on a VAC pension to use this program?
No. Any current or former CAF member is welcome — whether or not you have a VAC case open. Many veterans use our program for general medical care without any VAC involvement.
Can you help me apply for a VAC disability benefit?
Yes. We can complete the physician portions of VAC disability application forms, document service-related conditions, and provide medical opinions for VAC adjudication. We work alongside Veterans Affairs case managers and OSI clinics where they are involved.
Is your program free for veterans?
Physician consultations are billable to OHIP for Ontario residents. Some VAC paperwork is reimbursed by VAC; otherwise it is OHIP-covered. We will let you know in advance of any potential out-of-pocket costs.
I have PTSD — can virtual care really help?
Virtual care is well-supported as a delivery mode for PTSD treatment, including cognitive processing therapy, prolonged exposure, and EMDR (sometimes via specialist referral). Your DOS physician will assess and refer to OSI clinic services or trauma specialists where needed.
