01Who it's for

Our program is open to women at any life stage with menopausal, perimenopausal, or hormonal health concerns.

  • Are experiencing menopausal or perimenopausal symptoms
  • Want to discuss HRT (whether to start, stop, or switch)
  • Have suspected or diagnosed PCOS
  • Are dealing with hormonal weight gain or mood changes
  • Need contraception advice or a method change
  • Are an Ontario resident with a valid health card

02How the program works

Day 0 · Online intake

Confidential Intake

Complete a thoughtful intake form online — covering symptoms, history, and what you are hoping to address. Our team reviews within one business day.

Week 1 · Virtual visit

Lab Work if Needed

Hormones (FSH, estradiol), thyroid, and metabolic panels may be ordered to inform your plan — but for most menopausal women, the diagnosis is clinical.

Week 2 · Follow-up

Specialist Consultation

A virtual visit with your DOS physician to discuss your symptoms in depth, review options, and design a plan that fits your life.

Weeks 3+ · Ongoing care

Prescription & Plan Start

If indicated, prescriptions are sent directly to your pharmacy. Plans are individualised — one size does not fit all.

Wrap-up

Ongoing Adjustment & Review

HRT often needs fine-tuning over the first few months. Regular virtual check-ins to optimise dose, address side effects, and keep you well.

04Coverage & what's billed

OHIP-covered
Physician visits· for eligible Ontario residents
Many physician consultations are covered by OHIP for eligible Ontario residents under your provincial health card. We are always upfront about any cost before you proceed.
Valid health card required at intake

What's covered: physician consultations, requisitioned lab work, Registered Dietitian services, prescriptions written by your DOS physician, and follow-up visits during the program.

What may be patient-pay: certain medications (depending on private insurance), devices, supplements, and any out-of-program services you elect. Your DOS physician will discuss any patient-pay item with you before prescribing — nothing is added to your file without consent.

05Your pharmacy

Your preferred Metro pharmacy can assist with prescription fulfillment, medication availability, general pharmacy-related questions and product inventory inquiries. Clinical assessments, diagnoses, prescribing decisions and treatment plan modifications remain the responsibility of your physician.

06Eligibility & safety

Our program is open to women at any life stage with menopausal, perimenopausal, or hormonal health concerns.

This program may not be right for you if you:

  • Are pregnant (please see your OB)
  • Have undiagnosed gynaecological bleeding (in-person workup)
  • Have current breast or hormone-sensitive cancer (oncology care)
  • Have an acute gynaecological emergency (ER care)

07Common questions

Is HRT safe?
For most healthy women starting within 10 years of menopause and under 60, the benefits of HRT outweigh the risks. The 2002 WHI study (which scared a generation off HRT) has been substantially reinterpreted — modern transdermal regimens carry less risk than older oral combinations. Your physician will discuss your individual risk-benefit profile.
Do I need labs to start HRT?
Often, no. Menopause is a clinical diagnosis based on symptoms and timing. Labs (FSH, estradiol) can sometimes help in perimenopause or with younger women, but they rarely change the treatment plan in classic menopausal symptoms.
What is the difference between bioidentical and "regular" HRT?
Most modern HRT (estradiol patches, micronized progesterone) IS bioidentical — meaning the molecule is identical to what your body naturally makes. Compounded "bioidenticals" from boutique pharmacies are different and not regulated to the same standards. Your DOS physician will discuss what is right for you.
How long can I stay on HRT?
There is no firm "stop date." Many women stay on HRT for as long as the benefits outweigh risks — sometimes 5 years, sometimes 15+. The decision is reviewed regularly with your physician.
